Have you ever wondered why most photographers, myself included, don’t provide raw photos? It’s a question that has come up several times, and today, I’d like to explain once and for all why I’ve made this choice.
At Mon Soleil Photography, I deeply understand that when you choose me to capture your precious moments, you’re not just hiring a photographer; you’re entrusting me with your memories. I take this responsibility seriously and am committed to delivering the highest quality images to you. One of the practices I firmly stand by is not giving out raw photos, and today, I’d like to explain why.
1. Quality Control
Providing raw photos would mean relinquishing control over how my work is presented. By delivering only edited images, I can guarantee that the quality of the final product matches my high standards. To illustrate this, think of a scenario where, due to unforeseen circumstances, an indoor event has suboptimal lighting conditions. In the editing process, I can correct these lighting issues, ensuring that the final images are both visually appealing and true to the atmosphere of the event.
2. Craftsmanship and Artistry
Photography is an art form, and I pour my heart and soul into crafting each image. Raw photos, straight out of the camera, often lack the refinement and artistic touch that post-processing can provide. Let me illustrate this with an example. Imagine a breathtaking sunset photo taken on your special day. The raw image might lack the vibrant colors and dramatic contrasts that make sunsets so enchanting. Through careful editing, I can enhance the colors, emphasize the beauty of the moment, and create a truly mesmerizing image that encapsulates the essence of that moment.
3. Consistency
When you receive a final set of edited photos from me, you can expect a consistent look and feel throughout your entire album. Raw photos, on the other hand, can vary greatly in terms of exposure, color balance, and sharpness. Here’s an example of how consistency matters. Suppose I capture a series of candid moments during your wedding ceremony. Raw photos from different moments might have distinct lighting conditions or color temperatures. Through my editing process, I ensure that every image in your collection complements the others, creating a cohesive and visually stunning narrative of your special day.
BEFORE AND AFTER – ABOUT PHOTO EDITING
To me, editing is an essential part of the whole creation process in photography, that is when the magic happens. Some people prefer fast and quick edit or outsource to others, I myself really enjoy the editing process because that is where I can tweak my image that reflect my style (proudly).
Everyone can have a camera, what makes them stand apart is the ability to play with colors, enhance the photo at a professional level.
Of course, the base photo needs to be good (that is when your photography skill comes in). Like you need good materials for a good meal. After that the editing/retouching is easy. An editing workflow is like a recipe, it can take the photo to the next level.
Editing cannot fix a dull photo with bad lighting into an amazing one. That’s a misconception..
4. Professionalism
I take immense pride in my professionalism and the final product I deliver to my clients. Handing over raw photos without any post-processing can compromise the professional image I strive to maintain. For instance, consider a portrait session where natural light creates harsh shadows on your face. In the edited version, I can reduce those shadows, highlighting your natural beauty while maintaining the integrity of the moment.
5. Privacy and Brand Image:
Raw photos can sometimes capture unflattering moments or include distracting elements that you wouldn’t want to share with others. My editing process allows me to remove such distractions, preserving your privacy and ensuring that your images reflect the best version of your day. Here’s an example: during an outdoor event, an unexpected passerby might accidentally photobomb a shot. In the edited photo, I can skillfully remove this distraction, leaving you with an image that showcases your event without any interruptions.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my decision to not give out raw photos is rooted in my unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality and most beautifully crafted images to my clients. I believe that my post-processing work enhances the overall experience of reliving your memories, ensuring that you receive a collection of photographs that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
